We were contacted by Sue a month or two ago, when she submitted a painting that she had done to the Users Photos Section. Our apologies for not getting to it sooner, we've been a tad busy behind the scenes.

So here it is, a lovely painting that Sue did for a customer of hers. You can find out more about Sue and the paintings she has done, at her website www.suenichol.com

In 2010 the Festival raised over £5,000 for the community's Village Hall ensuring the essential upkeep for the Village Hall for another year. Big thanks must go to the many scarecrow makers, volunteers and visitors who help support this festival.

This years Wetwang Scarecrow Festival promises to be another cracker. They have some classes and categories for everyones enjoyment.

8 years ago the scarecrows arrived in Wetwang and the Village Hall Committee, as a fundraising activity for the newly-erected Wetwang Village Community Hall, decided to hold a festival. 8 years later it has grown to become the most important event in the villages calendar.

It isn't just a heap of scarecrows for you to look at, the enthusiastic residents will display them in gardens, open spaces, hidden corners and even on rooftops. In fact if you drive too slowly through the village, you may find one sneak into your car !!

Over 60 scarecrow graced last year’s festival and over 100 are expected for this years Wetwang Scarecrow Festival.

There appears to be no end to the creative talents of our scarecrow makers and their hiding places - and 2011 will surely see another imaginative bunch of inventions...

So why not pop in and help raise some much needed funds, even if it's just a quick visit on your way to the Yorkshire Seaside.

Eastfield Garden Centre on Easton Road will be hiding 500 mini eggs around its site for the children to discover. The free to enter Easter Egg Hunt will take place between 10am and 3pm and is open to all accompanied children under the age of 11.

Laura Mills, of Eastfield Garden Centre, said: “The eggs will be hidden in all areas of the garden centre apart from our café and coffee bar. To make sure that all the children have a fair chance of finding some eggs we will be hiding them on a staggered basis throughout the day.”

The East Riding Cultural Partnership is delighted to announce that another local contest has been launched as part of the Capturing the East Riding Photography Competition.

Viewfinder Photographic Society (VPS) has launched ‘Give Us Your Best Shot’, a contest that encourages East Yorkshire residents to capture what their local area means to them, through their camera lenses.

‘Give Us Your Best Shot’ will run until Saturday, 3 September, culminating in an exhibition in Skidby on Saturday, 1 and Sunday, 2 October. Prizes will be awarded to winners, whose photos will be submitted to an East Riding-wide competition for a chance to be exhibited at the Beverley Art Gallery in 2012.

VPS will host a series of free workshops in May to help participants get involved in the contest and learn more about taking good photos. For more information, visit the VPS website at www.viewfinderphoto.co.uk or call (01482) 867450.

David Marshall, VPS chairman, said: “We want people to be inspired and inspire others to use their cameras and send us their photos. It doesn’t matter how experienced you are. We can help people to take better pictures. We’re a friendly club and passionate about photography and we’d love to know what the East Riding means to you.”

Hilary Saynor, chair of the East Riding Cultural Partnership, said: “Viewfinder is setting a brilliant example. Their free workshops are an excellent way to promote the contest locally. It’s great to see such an enthusiastic group sharing its love of photography with other enthusiasts.”

Capturing the East Riding is supported by East Riding of Yorkshire Council, the East Riding Cultural Partnership, LEADER Coast, Wolds, Wetlands and Waterways, Press Association and Hull & East Yorkshire Mind.

Residents and visitors to Bridlington can sample the delights of Europe as the resort hosts its first ever continental market, from Friday, 27 to Monday, 30 May.

The Spa Gardens will be transformed into a bustling market place and will help draw the annual Bridlington Arts Festival, which is now in its 25th year, to a close.

The event has been held in the town since 1986, but this year the street festival moves to its new home within the stylish and contemporary new public space, which surrounds the recently refurbished Spa Bridlington. Street entertainment is also being booked all around the Spa to complement this unique market, throughout the weekend.

Professional continental market traders from France, Belgium, Italy, Spain, Holland and Poland will be selling high-quality products, including Brittany biscuits and olives, Swedish cider, Italian nougat, pungent cheeses, saucissons, Tartiflette from the Alps, charcuterie, fresh breads, croissants and, for those of you with a sweet tooth, there will be freshly cooked crepes, as well as Muscadet wines from a family vineyard in Frontignan.

As well as the fine edible goods, there is also a wide range of products, including hand bags and leather items, Marseille soaps and lavender, children’s toys and pachmina products.

Most of the products on sale will come from the land of the stall holder, where they are produced by small organisations, such as family businesses, farms or small factories using traditional methods, maintaining a high-standard of quality.
All of the traders will also wear their traditional local costume from 100 years ago, as well as decorating their stall to represent the area of the country they have come from, providing a true flavour of the continent.

For further information, contact Olivier Simonin, market operator at Traditional Market Ltd, on 07833937251 or visit www.traditionalmarket.co.uk
