Travelling To Redcar

By Road

Travelling To Redcar by road can be done by numerous roads, but the main roads are the A171, A174 and the A66.  From the South, the A171 comes up from Whitby. At Guisborough, as the A171 heads West towards Middlebrough, you can join the A173 towards Saltburn-by-the-Sea and then take the B1267 at Skelton and then the A1085 which will take you along the coast until you come to Redcar.  A slightly more direct route would be to turn onto the B1269, just after you join the A173 at Guisborough, which takes you directly into Redcar.

From the West, you can use the A174 or the A66.  The A66 is straight out of Middlesbrough, leading you to Grabgetown, where you would turn off the A66 onto the A1085 (also known as the A1 Trunk Road), and head straight into Redcar.  The A174 is slightly more southern than the A66 and whilst you could join the A1053, which would take you onto the A1085 (same route as the A66), you can follow the A174 to Kirkleatham and the A1042 and head into the Southern part of Redcar.

By Bus

Redcar Bus Station, was last used in 2007, and whilst the bus company Arriva North East has mentioned plans to renovate it - it remains disused.  There are however, many bus stops around the centre of Redcar - giving you easy access to shopping and the seafront.  Arriva is the main bus company serving the area, with Compass Royston and Northern Rail each running a service - with A1 Coaches, Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council, Tees Valley Coaches and Tees Valley Stage Carriage all running school services.

By Rail

Redcar Train Station is situated on Station Road less than half a mile from the seafront and about the same to the racecourse and is managed by Northern Rail.  The ticket office is open from Monday to Saturday 7.50am until 2.45pm (closed for 30 minutes for lunch 12.15pm to 12.45pm) and is closed on Sundays.  You can buy tickets outside of these times either on the train or from TheTrainLine.com There is a car park for around 60 cars, which is open 24 hours.
