Travelling To Whitby

By Road

When travelling to Whitby you can acces it by two roads, the A171 and the A174. From the South and the West, the A171 will bring you to Whitby.  From the South, travelling up from Scarborough, you will pass through Fylingdales (famous for the Fylingdale "Golf Balls" at RAF Fylingdales), Normanby and High Hawkser.

From the West, the A171 brings you from Middlesborough, past Guisborough, Suffield-cum-Everly and Aislaby.

From the North, you can use the A174 from Saltburn-by-the-Sea, passing through Easington, Hinderwell and Sandsend.

By Bus

Whitby has a small bus station, nearby to the towns train station. It is a manned bus station with staff being present Monday to Saturday 8.30am to 4.00pm (closed for an hour from 1.00pm), and closed for all of Sunday.

There are a number of companies that run services to the town : Arriva North East, Classic Buses/Moordale Coaches, Coastal & Country Coaches, Dunn Line, Esk Valley Coaches, Good Neighbours, M & D Mini Coach Hire, National Express, Northern Rail, Northern Star and Yorkshire Coastliner.  Arriva North East and Coastal & Country Coaches run the majority of the services.

Whitby Bus Station, Station Square, Whitby, YO21 1YN

By Rail

Whitby Train Station is situated in Station Square, just off Langbourne Road and is managed by Northern Rail. There is a ticket office which is open Monday to Saturday 8.30am to 4.00pm (closed for lunch 1.00pm to 1.30pm) and closed all day on Sundays.  There are no Self service ticket machines, so you will be restricted to the ticket office opening times or you can buy online at TheTrainLine.com

There is a carpark at the station, with space for approximately 60 cars. Charges apply to the carpark.
